Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing

This qualification applies to fire protection technicians responsible for non-trade installation and regular servicing of fire protection equipment and systems.

The target clients for this course are:

  • Fire Protection technicians who are existing workers in their field and are responsible for non-trade installation and regular servicing of fire protection equipment and systems.
  • PWR internal staff who are existing workers in the field

Course overview

The Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing course is designed to assist employees in understanding the legislative, guideline, manufacturer and industry requirements needed to competently undertake servicing and/or maintenance tasks on portable and/or fixed fire protection equipment; support fire protection technicians responsible for inspecting, testing and maintaining fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, fire blankets, delivery lay flat fire hoses, fire hydrants and pre-engineered fire suppression systems. It also includes repairing and servicing extinguisher valve and internal components, recharging or refilling extinguishers and hydrostatic pressure testing of suitable extinguishers, replacing hoses and drums (including existing risers fitted with a control valve).

Course Information

Delivery: This course is designed for existing workers in the field and delivered by a fully qualified industry professional using a blended learning method of theory and practical demonstrations and assessments. 
Duration: Four (4) days of face to face workshop totalling 36 hours of learning and approx.130 hours of self-directed learning including reading, videos and assessments. Students manager is also required to rate the student's skills and knowledge from the workplace in a pre-existing skills validation.

The following units of competency form part of a clustered package for CPP20511 Certificate II Fire Protection Inspection and Testing delivered by PWR RTO 45431. On successful completion of this package, the student will receive a testamur and record of results.

Student requirements

Participants must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Supply their USI number on enrolment
  • Have sufficient English language, literacy and numeracy skills to read instructions and write assessments
  • Be physically fit and able to carry at least 20 kgs of weight
  • Wear or bring; Cotton drill (long sleeve, long pants workwear), Safety Boots
  • Bring a notebook and pen
  • Have access to a computer and the internet for the self-directed learning components
