Emergency Vehicle Driving

Course Description:
This course covers the competency to drive emergency vehicles safely, including the systematic, safe and efficient control of all vehicles functions and effective management of hazardous situations under operational conditions.

The following unit of competency is delivered by PWR RTO 45431. Successful completion of this course will provide a statement of attainment in the following unit(s) of competency:
  • PUAVEH001B Drive vehicles under operational conditions

Target Audience:
The program has been developed to cater for corporate group bookings for the needs of those who are currently working in the mining sector and who require to have the skills and knowledge gained as part of their role. The target client includes:
  • Public safety workers who are required to operate vehicles both on and off road during public safety operations.
  • Personnel who are required to work as part of a firefighting or emergency response team.


Course Delivery:
This course is delivered by a fully qualified industry professional using a blended learning method of theory and practical demonstrations and assessments.
Duration: One (1) day face to face workshop including 9 hours of structured learning plus 10 hours (1 Day) self-directed learning and assessment.

Location: Site or at the PWR Training Facility (Bassendean WA)
Pre-requisites:  No individual public enrolments are taken for this course

Student requirements: Participants must:
  • Produce a current unrestricted driver’s licence as some of the driving requires driving on public roads.
  • Be able to effectively get in and out of the vehicle and perform the following tasks:
    • Off-road driving
    • Recovery operations
    • Cabin drill
    • Start-up check
  • Be at least 18 years of age due to mining regulations
  • Supply their USI number on enrolment
  • Be able to speak and write in English along with good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Wear enclosed shoes
  • Bring a pen and notebook
  • Have access to a computer and the internet for the self-directed learning components
